Nimbus in deal with multiple broadcasters for Indo-Sri Lanka series
Jan 24, 2009
After bagging the worldwide broadcasting and sponsorship rights, Nimbus Sport has concluded deals with a clutch of sports channels to telecast the upcoming India-Sri Lanka cricket series.
Zee TV has signed the telecast deal for United Kingdom. Nimbus has also sold the TV rights to Supersport in South Africa and Astro in Malaysia.
While the series will be telecast in Fiji on Fiji TV, Geo Super will show it in Pakistan and Setanta Sport in Australia. In Canada the series will be telecast by ATN.
Nimbus, according to sources, had paid around $7 million to bag the rights for the India-Sri Lanka series.
The matches will be aired on Neo Cricket in India, Singapore, Hong Kong and Middle East.
Meanwhile, Nimbus Sport has roped in motorcycle manufacturer Hero Honda and food service retailer McDonald's as official sponsors for the India-Sri Lanka cricket series.
While the sponsorship deal marks Honda’s continued association with leading cricket events, it also signals the entry of McDonald in the top international cricketing space.
Sony, Ten Sports compete to clinch India cricket series
Jan 18, 2009
Sony Corporation and Ten Sports are reportedly competing heavily to clinch the international television rights for the upcoming five one-day series against India, with Sri Lanka Cricket’s (SLC) bids for the sponsorship rights for the hastily arranged series, closing Monday.According to a local media report, Sony Corporation is expected to be “the front-runner at this bid where SLC was looking out for a price of $12-13 million”.
“However, it is learnt that Ten Sports whose rights were cancelled by the SLC under the chairmanship of Ranatunga (who was sacked later) has the matching rights and is determined to clinch the deal at any cost,” the Sunday Times newspaper Colombo said.
“SLC which was looking into an empty barrel a few weeks ago with no bidders for sponsorships is all smiles once again with its luck changing - at least for the time being,” the report said.
SLC chief executive officer (CEO) Duleep Mendis has said that for the tours at hand with Pakistan and India, Dialogue Telekom has stepped in as a team sponsor with a Rs.10 million package while MAS Holdings has extended its jersey sponsorship.
